ReMark: Contemporary Abstract Painting Exhibition from 4 Northwest Artists

Each of the 4 artists share common themes and practices, but their execution is very different, making this show a broad showcase of contemporary abstract painting. Their works start with an interest and exploration of the abstract tradition, sometimes expressionist, sometimes geometric. All are challenging, but inviting; from sublime minimal abstracts, to energetic, responsive reactions to spaces, places and all share a response to the traditional materials, processes, histories and theories of modernist abstract painting. This results in gestural and confident mark-making and use of colour, deeply rooted in the mechanics, techniques and processes of abstract painting.

CVA will be encouraging students and visitors to draw and make marks while the exhibition runs.

There will be an immersive Mark-Making area for visitors to create gestural and emotive marks, inspired by the art on display.

This show continues CVA’s aim to exhibit and display acclaimed visual art in Chester and to continue to remodel a previous H&M store within the Grosvenor Shopping Centre, offering an immersive gallery environment in the heart of the city.
