Chester fell to a fourth consecutive defeat this afternoon as Leamington took all three points.
Dan Turner’s 13th of the season was backed up by a Jack Edwards header, before Kelsey Mooney added a third.
Manager Steve Watson made two changes from the defeat to Spennymoor Town. Club Captain George Glendon and James Horsfield returned to the side in place of Rowan Roache and George Waring.
It was the hosts who had the first opportunity on three minutes. Callum Hawkins’ kick was flicked on by Edwards for Turner, but he fired straight at Wyll Stanway.
The same combination wasn’t to be denied on 18 minutes though. Edwards flicked on for Turner who sprung the offside trap and converted beyond the onrushing Stanway.
Chester struggled to muster a response in the opening 45, having just one shot on target which came through Declan Weeks right at the end of the half.
At the other end, Mooney twice went close in quick succession. First he glanced just wide from a Kelly-Evans cross, before firing over following a long throw.
Kelly-Evans was to provide an assist five minutes into the second half though as his floated corner to the back post found the skipper Edwards, who nodded home.
A double change at the break for the Blues almost found an instant response as Okera Simmonds found Stephenson and he crossed low for Marcus Dackers, but his effort on the spin was wide.
Simmonds almost pulled one back on 72 minutes as Rowan Roache’s ball across the edge fell kindly to the winger, however his low effort was smartly saved by Hawkins to his left side.
Nevertheless, it was game, set and match a few moments later. Mooney bundled his way into the box and sidefooted into the back of the net.
The Blues battled to find a late consolation as Roache and Weeks both went close, but they couldn’t trouble the scoresheet on a disappointing afternoon.
