Chester FC can confirm that Joel Taylor has joined National League side Chesterfield.
The 24-year-old joins the Spireites on a permanent basis for an initial £25,000 with further add-ons relating to future on-field successes across the next two seasons.
Taylor arrived at the Deva Stadium in May 2019 from Kidderminster Harriers, and made a big impact last term, being named CFU Player of the Season.
He was also named as the left back in the National League North Team of the Season for the 2019/20 campaign.
Joel went on to make 48 appearances for Chester FC.
We would like to wish him all the very best for the future and thank him for all his efforts during his time at the club.
Joint Manager Anthony Johnson had this to say: “We’re obviously disappointed to lose Joel at an important stage of the season.
“He is a player we’ve invested a lot of time in, in terms of scouting and coaching, but we believe it’s probably the right time and the best deal in the interests of all parties.
“It was made aware to us that there was interest in him from Chesterfield late last week and when we asked him what his thoughts on it were, he told us he wanted to leave Chester and sign for them.
“With a training session and game to be planning for we took the decision to take JT out of the squad as we didn’t want a player whose 100% focus wasn’t with us.
“After being released from Kidderminster at the end of the 18/19 season he joined us and was a consistent and stand out performer which quite rightly earned him a place in the league team of the season. He also won individual awards at our end of season award night and had interest from the EFL which unfortunately didn’t transpire.
“The total package we’ll receive for Joel is the third biggest the club has made since reformation and shows that the hybrid model is starting to bear fruit with players wanting to commit to extra training sessions which ultimately leads to greater performance and a higher residual value on each of our players.
“We’ve loved working with him and wish him all the luck in the world with his new move.”
