An infographic-style report released by Cheshire West and Chester Council today, 19 October, highlights key achievements from the past year. With a focus on the Council’s seven main priorities, the report summarises just some of the activity being delivered locally.
Leader of the Council, Councillor Louise Gittins said: “We’re very proud of the Council’s work with communities throughout the borough. This report gives an overview of how the Council is playing its part day in, day out to deliver the change our residents and businesses want to see.”
Among the key highlights are:
- Helping to create strong economic conditions across the borough, with £289,678,000 of inward investment recorded into Cheshire West and Chester
- Continuing to progress the £72m investment in Chester Northgate - a mixed use city centre development opening next month
- Beginning the delivery phase of a £21m town centre regeneration scheme in Winsford
- Supporting 92% of adults with a learning disability to live in their own home or with their family
- Creating a new team which helped 120 people avoid admission into hospital or a care home in the first place, by supporting them to stay in their homes
- Investing £12m in home and residential Adult Social Care services in the year to support an increasing number of vulnerable people across the borough - including an additional £5.8m to care providers to ensure they continue to deliver high quality care and pay staff a living wage
- Worked with developers and housing associations to build 450 new affordable homes to meet local housing needs - and by the end of the year, had delivered 9 years’ worth of housing against a target of 5 years
- Composted or recycled 58.97% of household waste - above the national target of 50% and the national performance average of 44% - making Cheshire West and Chester the 22nd best performing Council out of 333 Councils in England
In 2022/23 and beyond, the Council’s priorities include:
Driving a thriving economy, strengthening skills and supporting good local job opportunities
o Continuing to respond to the cost-of-living crisis and tackling poverty to help change people’s lives for good
o Further joining up care services with the NHS and transforming how adult social services support residents
o Ensuring refugees from across the world, including Afghanistan and Ukraine, feel welcome, safe and supported
