Here's the latest update from the Chester and Wirral Football League...

Wednesday 1^st May seen the Cayzer Shield final played at the home of Christleton between Waggon & Horses Reserves and Cestrian. A Ryan McCleary strike for Waggon was cancelled out by Cestrian to send the teams in at 1-1 at the half time interval and despite some great chances for Cestrian in the second half it was Trey Lattie who secured the win with a great free kick to see Waggon captain Jordan O’Brien lift the famous old shield. Special mention to Waggon Man of the Match Kieran Andrews who put in a great individual performance.

In the CWFL Queensferry Premier Division Moreton and Hoole played out a 4-4 draw. Moreton had Ash Jameson and Kyle Jameson on target with singles to go along with a Ewan McCready double only for Hoole to strike back with singles from Kyle Stoddart and Anthony Ferguson as well as a brace from Josh Leach.

Friday 3^rd May was Wirral FA Junior Cup final night at Cammell Lairds between arch-rivals Mersey Royal vets and Hooton vets. Royal having lost the Cheshire Cup final to Hooton a few weeks earlier were in no mood for a repeat as goals from Robbo Courtenay and Anthony Cotgrave secured the win and the trophy to set Royal up for what will potentially be the first of a treble.  The Division 1 league title is all but won and Royal will also be hoping to add the open age Life Members cup to the collection.

On the same night in the CWFL Queesnferry Premier Division it was goals galore as Shaftsbury and Kelsall played out a nine-goal thriller, Danny Whitehead was on target with a double with Steve Large and Finn Onwemene also adding singles for Shafts but Kelsall struck back thanks to a Dom Coates treble and a Joe Davis double to give Kelsall the 3 points.

Saturday the 4^{th of} May was double cup final day at Cammel Lairds as unbeaten Premier Division champions Waggon & Horses took on bottom club Sutton Rangers. In the two league games Waggon had taken the honours both times winning 11-1 and 3-1 so went into the game high on confidence.  Sutton though had other ideas to and put in a real team performance to give Waggon a huge scare.  Harley Bennion had netted for Waggon only for Steffan Gittens to bag for Sutton and send the game to penalties where It was Waggon who held their nerve to secure the win as goalkeeper Conah Ward made the crucial saves as Waggon won 4-2 on penalties to secure the double for Waggon after wrapping up the Premier League title with a 100% record.

On the same day in the CWFL Tom Gerraghty cup final Wirral Masters vets and Hartford vets played out a 2-2 draw at the end of 90 minutes. Mike Jones and Jordon Oldham netted for Hartford, but Aaron Doyle bagged a brace for Wirral Masters with one being a brilliant free kick which was placed into the top corner. The game went to penalties which Masters won 6-5 to lift the brilliant Tom Gerraghty Trophy.

Monday 6^th May was Doug Johnson cup final night between Higher Bebington Kelma vets and Winsford vets. Winsford put in a brave display but goals from Marc Jones, Simon Tierney and Aaron Bird gave Kelma the win to see captain Chrissy Dunn lift the trophy.

In the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship Cestrian Alex defeated Cheshire Vikings 5-1, but it was not enough as Cestrian needed to win by 18 clear goals! A valiant effort from Cestrian but congratulations to Waggon & Horses Reserves who take the Championship title on goal difference after both teams finished on 38 points.

On Saturday it was Life Members Cup semi-final day at the King George Astro pitch.  First on was Waggon & Horses against Higher Bebington Kalma vets and despite the heat the older vets put in a brave performance against the younger men, but it was Waggon who secured their passage into the final with goals from Ben Baratt, Robbie Davies and Man of the match Billy Fennall.

The second semi-final was between Mersey Royal vets and Sutton rangers and despite Sutton twice taking the lead at 1-0 and 2-1 with goals from Alex Morgan and Steffan Gittins it was Mersey Royal who struck back with goals from Kris Hesketh, Robbo Courtenay, Anthony Cotgrave and John Strange as Royal finished stronger to secure their place in the final where they will play Waggon and Horses this coming Saturday at Cairns Crescent Blacon 2pm kick in what is expected to be a fantastic game as both teams will be hoping to add the final piece of a treble.
