
Here are the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...
Waggon & Horses took a significant step towards reclaiming the CWFL Queensferry Premier Division title on Saturday, securing a hard-fought 4-3 victory over Handbridge. The win propelled them into third place, just six points behind long-time leaders Moreton, though Waggon have three games in hand. Handbridge's Rhys Roberts netted a brace, with Marley Jones also on target. For Waggon, star striker Harley Bennion bagged a hat-trick, while Daniel Davies added another to the scoreline.
Not to be outdone by their first team, the Waggon & Horses Reserves triumphed 4-3 in the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship, overcoming Fender FC in a thrilling encounter. Leo Evens grabbed a brace, while Josh Hasselden and Jay Jackson chipped in with crucial goals. Fender’s Charlie Gouldson was the standout performer, netting a hat-trick, but it wasn’t enough to avoid defeat.
Whitegate United and Ellesmere Port Town U21s played out an entertaining 2-2 draw, with Shaun Howarth and Cal Lovell on target for Whitegate, while Alfie Davies and Jacob Pirie’s penalty replied for Ellesmere Port.
In Veterans League action, Hooton Vets ran riot in a 6-1 win over Queens Park Vets. Carl Murphy stole the show with a four-goal haul, with Dave Rudge and Eddie Jebb also scoring. Anton Jolley’s spectacular goal from halfway was a rare highlight for Queens on a tough day.
Higher Bebington Kelma continued their excellent form, following up their Doug Johnson Cup quarter-final victory with a commanding 6-1 triumph in the CWFL P3plant Life Members Cup 2nd round, overcoming Championship side FC Farndon. Craig Cairns was the star, scoring four times, with Simon Saunders and Jayson Ashwork also getting on the scoresheet.
In CWFL Roodee Web Design Tom Gerraghty Cup quarter-final action, Frodsham triumphed 1-0 over Poulton Athletic, courtesy of a Kev Valentine goal. Wirral Master also advanced with a 3-1 win over Crossway Vets, thanks to strikes from Luke Brennan, Chris Atherton, and Darren McKevitt. Crossway’s lone response came from Kevin Leach.
Nags Head Bunbury secured their place in the semi-finals, overcoming Witton Albion 2-1. Alex More and Alastair Taylor were the scorers for Nags Head.
In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 2, Ellesmere Port Red Lions maintained their fine form with a 5-2 victory over Winsford Town Vets. Rob Jones bagged a brace, with Dave Fenwick, Chris McGaffrey, and an unfortunate own goal completing the scoring.
Chester Nomads Vets enjoyed a dominant 8-1 win over West Kirby United Vets, with Tom Cairns scoring a hat-trick. James Macintosh, Mike Jeffs, and Andy Lloyd also found the net, while Sam Hill grabbed a consolation goal for West Kirby.
