Chester and Wirral Football League - Weekend Round Up

Here are the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...

Cheshire Cup

Waggon & Horses delivered a stellar performance in the Cheshire Cup, flying the flag for the CWFL League with a dominant victory over Aston on Mersey FC. Daniel Davies was the star of the show, netting a brilliant hat-trick, while additional goals from Kieran Ball and Shaun Gregersen sealed the win and ensured Waggon’s spot in the next round.

Vets Cheshire Cup

Waggon & Horses may be the lone representatives of the CWFL League in the open-age Cheshire Cup, but the Veterans Cheshire Cup is a different story, with all participating teams hailing from the CWFL Veterans League.

Defending champions Hooton faced a challenging away tie against last season's Division 4 winners, Hartford Vets, and it was Hartford took an early lead and grabbed a second but will surely regret missed opportunities to score more. Hooton made them pay, with goals from Kirk Mustoe, Richie Feightman, Dave Rudge, and James Quinn securing a 4-2 victory.

Cheshire Vikings from Division 5 gave Capenhurst Vets a tough match, with Jack Towers finding the net for the Vikings. However, Capenhurst responded through Lee Youds and Mark Lowe to take the win.

Frodsham Vets from Division 4 put up a strong fight against Division 1 side Queens Vets. In a thrilling first half, Frodsham with goals from Anthony Ollier and Andy Corness had Queens on the back foot, but the Division 1 side responded with strikes from Anton Jolly, Mike McGree, and Steve Baguley to take a 3-2 lead into halftime. In the second half, Queens raised their game, with Andy Owens extending the lead and McGree completing his hat-trick, sealing their spot in the next round.

Higher Bebington Kelma overcame West Kirby Vets 2-1, thanks to goals from Paul Stewart and JP Wheadon, with West Kirby’s Adam Taylor providing the lone response. Meanwhile, Great Float Vets dominated Hoole Rangers Vets with a 7-0 victory, featuring a hat-trick from Neil Atkinson and braces from Paul Howell and Tommy Carroll.

Ellesmere Port Red Lions booked their spot in the next round with a 4-1 triumph over Upton JFC Vets, courtesy of a Graeme Davidson brace and goals from James Hudson and Si Whelan. Tom Jones scored Upton's only goal.

CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division

Returning to domestic action on Friday night, early front-runners Moreton FC maintained their strong form with a hard-fought victory over a spirited Christleton UDA side. Andrew Poe found the net for Christleton, but Moreton hit back with a Jay Hanson double and a goal from Charlie Clewlow, securing a win that puts them four points clear at the top of the table.

On Saturday, both Premier Division matches ended in 1-1 draws. Chester Nomads 3rds saw Cal Caulfield score, only for Jord Mather to equalize for Upton JFC Reserves. Meanwhile, Mike McIntyre netted for Cestrian Alex in their away fixture at Hoole Rovers as the teams shared the spoils.

CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship Division

The Olympic Trophies Championship Division is shaping up to be very competitive based on the early season results, at least five teams are in the hunt for the title. Whitegate have emerged as the new leaders following a commanding 6-1 win over Ellesmere Port U21. Luke Duffy led the charge with a brace, while further goals from Daz Fox, Jack Lanceley, Chris Jump, and Shaun Howarth secured the victory. Aaron Worthington grabbed the consolation goal for Ellesmere Port.

Lache continued their impressive scoring form with a 5-2 win over Upton JFC. Despite a tough first half, Lache found their rhythm in the second, with Ry Barratt and Keiye Williams both netting doubles, and Warren Kelly adding to the tally. Upton's goals came from Joe Walsh and Aris Manalpolous.

West Kirby edged past Horse and Jockey with a 3-2 victory. Joe Little struck twice and Michael McStein added a third for West Kirby, while Lewis Bishop and Thomas Evans responded for Horse and Jockey.

FC Farndon secured a 5-1 triumph away at Chester Nomads 3rd, thanks to a Sam Williams double and goals from Will Yardley, Joel Nevitt, and Leo Davenport. Leon Williams netted the sole goal for Chester Nomads.

Waverton climbed to fifth place with a resounding 5-1 win over Sutton Rangers Reserves. Declan Jones was the star, bagging a hat-trick, with Jasper and Stuart Scheuber also finding the back of the net. Despite sitting fifth, Waverton are just three points behind the leaders, Whitegate, reflecting the competitive nature of the league.

CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 3

FC Farndon Vets edged out Parkfield Vets 4-3 in a thrilling encounter. Parkfield’s 3 times but FC Farndon responded with four of their own, as Lewis Normas netted a brace, with Kieran Tudor and Roy Cardus also finding the target to secure all three points.

Tarvin Athletic moved to the top of Division 3 with a commanding victory over Ellesmere Port Town Vets. Dave Taylor was in sensational form, scoring four goals, while Matthew Andrews added a hat-trick. Kevin Rogerson and David Addiscott also got on the scoresheet in the dominant win.

CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 5

Witton Albion claimed a narrow 3-2 victory over Port Sunlight Vets. Craig Smith's double and a goal from Dave Shore sealed the win for Witton, while James German and Mike Williams were on target for Port Sunlight. This result keeps Witton second in the standings, three points behind Poulton Athletic, who thrashed Hoole Wanderers Vets 7-1. Danny Tolman netted a hat-trick, Lee Dermondy scored twice, and Danny Holmes and Graham Woods also contributed. Mario Jorge scored the lone goal for Hoole.
