Chester and Wirral Football League - Weekend Round-Up

Here are the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...

League leaders Moreton FC continued their dominant form in the CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division on Friday night, dispatching Hoole Rovers 5-1 to maintain their four-point cushion at the summit. Ryan Slater grabbed a brace, while Billy New, Jay Hanson, and Charlie Clewlow each found the net to keep Moreton firmly in control of the title race.

Defending champions Waggon & Horses showed they’re not ready to relinquish their crown, thrashing Chester Nomads 3rds 6-0 on Saturday. Ryan Cooney scored twice, with Caleb Rose, James Lloyd, and Shaun Gregerson also on the scoresheet, aided by an own goal.

Christleton UDA, after losing their first six games, are enjoying a resurgence with a second successive victory, beating Cestrian Alex 6-3. Farid Robles and Cooper Nelson each bagged braces, while Sam Tenwalde and Frantz Fuller also contributed. Cestrian’s goals came from Arnie Djedje, Luke Peaker, and an own goal.

Upton JFC Reserves and Handbridge played out a 3-3 thriller, with Joe Williams shining for Upton with a hat-trick. Handbridge hit back through Ryan Bradley (2) and Joey Hancox. Meanwhile, Kelsall climbed to fourth with a 3-0 win over Hoole Rangers, thanks to strikes from Andy Walker, Mikey Taylor, and an own goal.

On Friday night in the CWFL Olympic Trophies championship division, West Kirby thirds secured a 2-1 win away at Sutton Rangers reserves to temporarily move second, for West Kirby, a Tom Mulryan 40 yarder was the highlight of the game as Charlie Fitzpatrick also netted. On the scoresheet for Sutton was Joe Davies.

Whitegate opened up a six-point lead at the top of the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship Division with a 3-0 win at Horse & Jockey. Chris Jump, Luke Duffy, and Rob Griffiths provided the goals.

Second-placed Waverton, with four games in hand, remain in the chase after a commanding 5-1 victory over Waggon & Horses Reserves. Goals from Owen Hughes, Jasper Scheuber, Declan Jones, Joe Rigby, and Louis Finn sealed the win, with Patrick Jennings netting a consolation for Waggon.

Fender FC moved into third place, seven points behind Whitegate with three games in hand. A 4-1 victory at Chester Nomads saw Charlie Gouldson score twice, while Billy Beasley and Jamie Williams also found the net. George Cartwright was Nomads' lone scorer. Elsewhere, Upton JFC 3rds and Ellesmere Port Town played out a rare goalless draw.

CWFL Tarvin Precision vets’ division 3 Leaders Hartford Vets edged past Parkfield Vets 1-0, courtesy of Mike Jones, to stay top. Tarvin vets remain two points adrift after a 7-4 goal fest against FC Farndon. Matthew Andrews was the standout performer with four goals, supported by Darren Lloyd (2) and Sean Taylor. Farndon’s scorers included Carlisle Santos (2), Roy Cardus, and Derek Nurse.

Waggon & Horses Vets triumphed 4-2 over Ellesmere Port Vets, with Lee McMeel, Louie Mackin, Robbie Joinson, and James Henry on target. Charanjit Mann and Andy Dutton netted for Ellesmere Port.

Onto Division 4 were Dee Rangers vets and Wirral Masters vets shared the spoils in a 3-3 thriller, Edwin Reyes, Matt Norton and Jacob Robotham all netted for Dee Rangers while Masters had. John Davies, Luke Brennan on target with an unfortunate own goal the other.

Upton JFC vets beat Hoole Rangers vets 4-2, with goals from Jim Lehman, Matt Norton, Phil Cordell, and Dan Stevenson. Hoole Rangers had Rich Whinchup and Ash English on target in reply.

Division 5 action seen a top of the table clash between Witton vets and Poulton vets. Francis Tolman and Marlon Bynoe found the net for Poulton, but Witton struck four times to seal a 4-2 win to open a 3-point lead at the top. Crossway vets stayed third with a commanding 4-0 victory over Frodsham vets, Josh Jones led the way with a brace wile Justin Osuji and Lukas Jurczak also scored.

Port Sunlight vets had Andy Crilly on target twice while Matty Nayland and Terry Dobbins also scored but Cheshire Vikings also scored four thanks to a Stuart Hardman double and singles from both Micheal Shaw and Edward Wylde. West Kirby vets defeated Great Sutton vets 3-0 with the goals coming from Lee Bedding, Paul Johnstone and Jon Oliver.
