Chester and Wirral Football League - Weekend Roundup

Here's the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...

After a brief hiatus due to the festive season and recent cold weather, the CWFL returned with a packed weekend of league and cup fixtures.

The Cheshire Vets Cup finalists have been confirmed, with Mersey Royal vets and Capenhurst vets booking their places after contrasting semi-final wins.

Mersey Royal vets advanced in style with a commanding 7-1 victory over Queens Park vets on Friday night. Ian Sheridan was in sensational form, netting a hat-trick, while Mikey Burke, Chris McGinn, Josh Dures, and Anthony Cotgrave also found the net, Queens consolation goal came courtesy of a Nick Scholes effort.

In Saturday’s semi-final, Capenhurst vets edged past Higher Bebington Kelma vets in a fiercely contested 3-1 win. Goals from Cam Forster and Ian Armstrong gave Cape a 2-1 lead at half-time, with John Paul Wheadon scoring for Kelma. Despite Kelma’s second-half pressure, Ian Forster sealed the win with a superb header when Capenhurst netted a break away goal midway into the second half.

The first CWFL League Cup quarter-final on Friday night saw Moreton, leaders of the Premier Division, narrowly defeat Waggon & Horses 1-0 thanks to a crucial Rob Smith goal.

Saturday’s matches delivered plenty of excitement. Chester Nomads Thirds and Christleton UDA played out a thrilling 3-3 draw, with Tom Clarke, Callum Pepler, and Seb Dunn scoring for Nomads. Christleton’s response came through a Farid Robles double and Austin Bimp’s goal. Christleton triumphed 5-4 on penalties to progress.

Hoole Rovers and Cestrian Alex also needed penalties after a 2-2 stalemate. Cestrians goals came from Josh Camy and Niall Peaker. In the resulting penalty shoot-out Cestrian ran out 3-1 winners.

Championship Title Race Intensifies:

The CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship title race continues to heat up. Fender suffered a blow to their hopes as FC Farndon ran out 6-3 winners on Friday. Andrew Walker and Will Yardley both struck twice, with Carlos Cesar and Joel Nevitt completing the scoring. Fender’s goals came from Ash Power, Liam Keating, and Mark McNoon.

Whitegate United maintained their four-point lead at the top with a 3-1 win over Sutton Rangers reserves, courtesy of goals from Tom Carney, Sam Elwood, and Ollie Emmerson. Joe Davies scored for Sutton.

Lache climbed to second with an emphatic 5-0 win over Ellesmere Port Town, featuring a Warren Kelly double, taking his season tally to 22, alongside a Ben Barrett brace and a Jord O’Brien strike.

Waverton, two points behind Lache but with two games in hand, edged past Chester Nomads fourths 2-1 thanks to a Declan Jones double. George Cornes netted Nomads’ consolation.

In the Doug Johnson Vets Cup first round, Hartford Vets carried their league form into the cup with a 4-2 victory over Parkfield Rangers vets. Goals came from Mike Jones, Dan Bowen, Andy Marlor, and Rob Amies, while Kev Windass and Tony Langy replied for Parkfield.

FC Farndon vets edged Tarvin vets 2-1, with Gez Jenkins and Nick Grimes on target for Farndon. David Addiscott scored for Tarvin.

Eastham vets secured a dramatic 8-7 penalty shootout win over Waggon & Horses vets after a 2-2 draw. Lee Mcemeil and Rich Marshall scored for Waggon, while Eastham responded through Can Rowlands and Joe Mcanspie.

Division 4 and 5 Round-Up
In the CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 4, Frodsham Park JFC vets extended their lead at the top with a 3-2 win over Wirral Masters vets. Ray Whyard bagged a double, with Paul Mears adding another. Masters’ goals came from John Davis and Steve Roberts.

Nags Head Bunbury vets marked their return to action with a 3-0 win against Hoole Rangers vets, courtesy of Henry Buckley, Simon Mitchleson, and Alex Moore. Meanwhile Dee Rangers vets fell 2-1 to FC Vaults vets, with Chris Sutter scoring twice for Dee and Aiden Croft replying for Vaults.

In Division 5, Poulton Athletic vets delivered the weekend’s biggest win, thrashing Frodsham Park reserves vets 10-1. Redmond Bush netted a hat-trick, with Michael McCann and Francis Tolman adding braces. Further goals came from Kieran Dolan, Aiden Ryan, and Kev Kearney while Chris Carey netted Frodsham’s consolation goal.

Elsewhere, Port Sunlight vets defeated Great Sutton vets 4-1, with Mike McGee and Matty Nayland both scoring twice. West Kirby vets lost 4-2 to Whitton Albion Vets, Jay McQueen helped himself to a double wile Oliver James and Kev Douglas both scored a goal each. Justin Osuji’s hat-trick helped Crossway vets cruise to a 5-0 win over Hoole Wanderers vets with Josh Jones and Phil Goss also getting in on the act.
