Chester and Wirral Football League - Weekend Update

Here are the latest results from the Chester and Wirral Football League...

Friday night saw a goal-fest across the CWFL Olympic Trophies Championship, highlighted by a thrilling 5-5 draw between Fender FC and Ellesmere Port Town U21s. Fender’s Charlie Gouldson bagged a hat-trick, with Ash Power and Oscar Sargent adding to the tally. But Ellesmere Port kept pace, with Jake Pirie leading the way with an impressive four goals and Louie Harrison netting another, leaving the match dramatically level. Both teams remain mid-table after this exciting encounter.

In other action, AFC Waverton surged to second place with a commanding 4-1 away win over Lache. Goals from Alex Jones, Ruben Baldwin, Jasper Scheuber, and Joe Rigby secured the points, putting Waverton just four points behind league leaders Whitegate, with the advantage of three games in hand.

Whitegate, on the other hand, came away with a 2-2 draw at FC Farndon. Despite goals from Kyle Craven and Daz Fox, Whitegate couldn’t shake off the resilient hosts, as Sam Williams and Will Yardley struck back for Farndon to dent Whitegate’s title charge.

The only Saturday game in the Championship saw Waggon & Horses Reserves secure a narrow 1-0 victory over Sutton Rangers Reserves, with Leo Evans providing the decisive goal.

CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 1

In veterans’ action, Hooton Vets edged out Queens Park Vets in a gripping contest on Friday night. In a first half dominated by Hooton, Ritchie Feightman and Dave Rudge put Hooton ahead going into the break, but Queens Park fought back with two goals from the clinical Mike McGree to level. Despite Hooton going down to ten men, Rudge returned as the hero, finding the winner in the final five minutes to seal the win.

Neston Nomads Vets stunned Mersey Royal Vets with a goal just 10 seconds in, courtesy of Chris Kennedy. However, Mersey Royal responded with Anthony Sheenan netting a hat-trick, supported by goals from Chay Dysart and James Beattie. Neston pushed back through Paul Ellison and Liam Jeacock, but Mersey Royal’s firepower proved too strong, securing their fourth straight win.

On Saturday, Capenhurst Vets found the net through Phil Jones and Cam Forster, but Higher Bebington Kelma’s Shaun Burgess stole the show with a perfect hat-trick—scoring with his left foot, right foot, and head—to secure all three points for his side.

CWFL Queensferry Sports Premier Division

Waggon & Horses moved menacingly into second place with a commanding 3-0 victory over Handbridge. Kieran Ball, Shaun Gregerson, and Lewis Coppack each found the net to secure the win for Waggon.

Kelsall clinched a 2-1 victory over Chester Nomads 3rds, with goals from Ollie Nunn and Louis Clark, while Osian Jones replied for the Nomads. Hoole Rovers matched that scoreline in their win against Christleton FC UDA, as Mitch Barclay and Jack Booth found the net, with Asher Morris scoring a consolation goal for Christleton.

CWFL Tarvin Precision Vets Division 2

West Kirby United Vets surged into a 3-0 lead against Winsford Vets with goals from Steve Jones, Dany Williams, and Kevin Enright, but Winsford mounted an impressive comeback, as Shaun Warburton and Ryan Ashall each scored twice to clinch a 4-3 victory.

Northern Cup

In the Northern Cup, Hoole Rangers triumphed over Crewe FC Development with a 4-1 win, led by a Kyle Stoddart brace and additional goals from Victor Arongundade and Godwin Nweze.

Cestrian Alex put up a valiant fight but ultimately fell 2-1 to Daten FC.
