The New Lord Mayor of Chester, Cllr Martyn Delaney, has chosen DSN as his new charity of the year.
Cllr Delaney who was sworn in last month to the prestigious post has chosen the 45-year-old sensory loss charity to support throughout his reign as Lord Mayor, alongside mental health charity Chapter and the Hospice of the Good Shepherd.
Cllr Delaney said: “Many of us take our senses for granted, so to lose something like your hearing or your sight is something very significant and it’s important the people of Chester have the right support at the point of need. That’s why choosing DSN seemed so natural to me - I’m proud to be supporting them and learning more about them as the year progresses.”
Cllr Delaney will be joined by Lady Mayoress Carol Berry, who is also the volunteer coordinator for the organisation and a British Sign Language user too.
Through a series of events, quizzes and banquets, Cllr Delaney hopes to bolster the fundraising efforts for the charity, which supports more than 100,000 people across Cheshire and North Wales, with hearing and sight loss.
Gill Reeder, Operations Executive said: “We are delighted to have been chosen by Cllr Delaney as his charity of the year especially during our 45 year celebrations! It really helps to highlight the work that our 75+ strong team does daily to support people with a sensory loss and break down communication barriers so they can lead fulfilling lives.
“Congratulations to Cllr Delaney and our heartfelt thanks again - we are so looking forward to the next 12 months!”
