Chester Football Club has provided an important update to supporters on fan behaviour.
The vast majority of our fans demonstrate exemplary behaviour and the support the club receives at home and away matches is massively appreciated.
However, a small minority continue to act in a way that is detrimental to the reputation of our club and the wider fanbase, with potential ramifications for us all.
Since the start of the 2025/26 season, we have had received reports of anti-social or criminal behaviours at eight of our matches, including pitch incursions, throwing objects, physical altercations, using smoke bombs, and discriminatory and abusive language.
There has also been an increase in offensive social media posts directed at club representatives, containing personal insults, abuse, and threats that clearly exceed the bounds of reasonable criticism.
As a consequence, a number of individuals have already been subject to police action or been issued with stadium bans, while a further three police investigations are ongoing.
The FA have warned that future incidents will put the football club at risk of sanctions that could take the form of fines, a partial stadium closure or points deduction.
While we are not alone in having to deal with these problems, with concern across the game about the rise in unacceptable fan behaviour within football grounds and online, we are increasingly frustrated at the actions of a small minority who are damaging our club’s reputation and consuming valuable staff time and resources.
Chester FC is an inclusive, family-friendly football club and committed to ensuring the Deva Stadium provides a safe, welcoming environment for all visitors.
We expect all supporters to behave in a responsible manner and adhere with our Code of Conduct, which can be found at:
chesterfc.com/supportercodeofconduct.
Anti-social, criminal or discriminatory behaviour will not be tolerated, and we will work closely with Cheshire Police and the football authorities to identify and take action against those responsible.
If you witness anti-social, criminal or discriminatory behaviour at a match, please report it immediately to a steward or email:
Thank you for your continued support.
