In partnership with MBNA, the Chester FC Community Trust marks this year’s Mental Health Awareness Week with one of their weekly mental health football sessions, aiming to reduce social isolation and offer participants opportunities to make friends and keep fit in a welcoming environment, talk about their problems without stigma, seek advice and access additional support.

On Thursday 16th May, participants will partake in a football session with Chester FC Community Trust at King George V Community Sports Hub in Blacon. These regular sessions take place every Tuesday and Thursday lunchtime and are open to those who have experienced a mental health problem, with no formal referral needed.

With the awareness week’s theme centring around “Movement: Moving more for our mental health”, the foundation is raising awareness of the positive outlet these informal training sessions can provide for those struggling with poor mental health.

More info on Chester FC Community Trust and their weekly mental health football sessions:

The sessions are attended by support workers, from both the NHS and other agencies, as well as mental health first aiders from the club itself, who can all provide information on additional support that attendees may benefit from.

With evidence showing regular exercise is beneficial for mental health and well-being, the sessions intend to help reduce stress and anxiety, increase self-esteem and reduce the risk of depression while providing attendees with a safe space to attend each week.
