Flintshire County Council has successfully been re-awarded the Gold Award under the MOD's Gold Employer Recognition Scheme (ERS) for its outstanding support to the Armed Forces community.
The Gold Award represents the highest honour in the scheme. The Council was one of 23 local authorities in the UK who achieved this award in 2019 and was one of the first four local authorities in Wales to achieve the award.
To achieve the Gold Award employers must proactively demonstrate that the Armed Forces Community are not unfairly disadvantaged in the workplace and must offer exceptional support and advocacy for the Armed Forces community and veterans' employment. The Armed Forces Community includes reservists, veterans and their families. Organisations must reapply every five years to retain their Gold Award status.
Councillor David Evans, Flintshire County Council Armed Forces Champion, received the award on behalf of the Council at the SAFE Forum Business Breakfast on Tuesday 1st April at the Queensferry Reserve Centre, together with other employers within Flintshire who have achieved this prestigious award.
Councillor Evans said:
“We are delighted and proud to have retained the Gold Award in recognition of the Council’s commitment and dedication to supporting veterans, reservists and the Armed Forces community. It is a great honour to be seen as an exemplar employer.
"Since we first received the award in 2019, we have sustained our commitment and continued to support the Armed Forces community. As a veteran I understand the barriers faced by the Armed Forces Community and I know the real difference that supportive employers can make to people’s lives. It is wonderful to see other employers in Flintshire also supporting this admirable cause.”
