DSN Secures Grant to Support Deaf Community

The Deaf & Sensory Network has announced a grant of £4,360 to support the deaf community through the distribution of slow cookers, thanks to funding received from Cheshire West Voluntary Action in collaboration with Cadent Gas.

This vital funding was made possible through the successful partnership between CWVA and Cadent, as part of their ongoing support for community sector organisations in the Cheshire area.

The grant is part of the wider ‘Centres For Warmth’ initiative, which has been developed to provide a warm, friendly environment where people can find companionship and support during these challenging times of rising living costs. The initiative, supported by CWVA and Cadent, has already helped more than 1,800 people, with 82% attending for social reasons, significantly reducing social isolation.

Through this generous grant, DSN will distribute slow cookers to individuals in the deaf community, allowing them to cook healthy meals more affordably and efficiently. This effort aligns with DSN’s mission to reduce barriers and enhance the quality of life for deaf and sensory-impaired individuals.

To celebrate the donation volunteers at the CAMEO (Come and Meet Each Other) Monday community group sessions held in Northwich created delicious slow-cooked Bean Chilli and Chicken Casseroles and shared recipes with the group to give them inspiration for their slow-cooking creations. Slow cookers were also raffled off at the session and later at the DSN Staff Development Day.

Through this initiative, more than £150,000 has been invested into the community sector, highlighting the success of the CWVA and Cadent partnership in providing much-needed support to local organisations.

Gill Reeder, CEO of DSN said:

“We are incredibly grateful for the funding received through CWVA and Cadent, which will allow us to continue our work in supporting the deaf community with practical tools to improve their daily lives.

“Slow cookers are a simple but powerful way to promote well-being and reduce costs for individuals and families alike,”
