Woodlands Primary School, in Eddisbury Road in Whitby, is among 300 schools where a share of £37m will be invested in high-quality, affordable and teacher-led provision as part of the Government’s Plan for Change initiatives.
In a letter to Ellesmere Port and Bromborough MP Justin Madders about the school-based nurseries capital fund – phase 1, Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson wrote:
“It is our ambition that all families have access to high-quality, affordable and flexible early education and care, giving every child the best start in life.
“We continue to deliver on our promises to parents by announcing the first phase of our new or expanded school-based nurseries.
“As part of the first phase of the school-based nurseries programme, we are investing £37m into 300 schools across the country to open and expand nurseries. This will create up to 6,000 more nursery places for young children.
“While primary schools with a nursery on site can build stronger, longer lasting relationships with families, and support the transition of young children from nursery to primary school, this will also support the delivery of the final stage of the 30-hours-a-week childcare entitlement which will become available to working families with children from nine months old, from September.
“This will enable parents to have more power to choose the hours they want to work while also supporting young children to become school ready.”
