Flintshire Council’s Social Services receive a positive inspection

Flintshire County Council’s Adults and Children’s Services showcased their hard work, creativity and innovation during a recent inspection.

The service was visited by inspectors from Care Inspectorate Wales (CIW) in November last year and was the first full inspection in 8 years. Inspectors spent two weeks, based a Ty Dewi Sant, and travelled around the county to meet staff, partners, service-users and their families.

The purpose of the inspection was to review the local authority’s performance in exercising its social services duties and functions in line with legislation.

A report published following the visit commended the ‘stable and experienced’ senior management team in place across the services and noted that practitioners clearly know the people they support very well.

The recent restructure across both services is acknowledged as having the potential to provide more resilience, opportunities for greater support and managerial oversight, as well as career progression.

It was also acknowledged that the Council knows the needs of its population and has implemented successful plans in response to identified need and the lack of certain support services. This has been achieved by working in partnership with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board (BCUHB) and other relevant partners to develop innovative services with significant capital investment, including Marleyfield Care Home and  Ty Nyth Children’s Care Home.

Chief Officer for Social Services, Neil Ayling, said:

“The positive outcome of this inspection demonstrates the hard work and dedication of our teams, supporting individuals and families in Flintshire on a daily basis.

“I am proud that the feedback from the inspectors has been so encouraging and in addition, welcome the areas that the inspectors have identified to consider for development. I would like to thank our teams for their ongoing hard work and I am looking forward to making plans to build on this success for the future.”
