The 26th MoonWalk London, organised by breast cancer charity Walk the Walk, has now raised in excess of £2 million!
On Saturday 18th May, thousands of women and men wearing decorated bras set off overnight from Clapham Common. The walkers took part in either a half or full marathon and walked through the streets of London to raise awareness and money for people living with cancer.
Celebrities taking part in The MoonWalk London itself included Harriet Thorpe (EastEnders actress, Queen Vic landlady Elaine Peacock and Walk the Walk Ambassador); Gaby Roslin (TV Presenter and Radio Broadcaster); Natalie Cassidy (Eastenders actress playing Sonia Fowler); Heather Peace (Eastenders actress playing Eve Unwin); David Ames (Hollyoaks actor playing Carter Shepherd).
Fundraisers Gynette Janney, from Hawarden in Flintshire, and Lucy Cummins (56,from Maylandsea in Essex) finished the 26.2 miles Full Moon, at the end of an extraordinary week for the duo. The Full Moon successfuly completed their “7 Ultras in 7 Days” challenge, walking 260 miles from North Wales to London in just seven days.
Their route took them from Saltney in Flintshire, near Gynette’s home, through Shropshire, the West Midlands, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire and Herfordshire, covering at least 37 miles every single day, supported by Gynette’s husband Seb, as well as Lucy’s husband Andy and son Fraser. Gynette and Lucy have already raised more than £5,000 for Walk the Walk.
Gynette Janney said:
“I had a blast and more fun than I ever could have imagined and true to form we didn’t stop chatting and laughing from day 1 to day 7. This challenge wouldn’t have been possible without our fantastic support crew of Seb, Andy and Fraser. We’ve had so many comments from people who have enjoyed following us on our live tracker and our daily blog. Thank you to everyone who supported us and sponsored us - without them the challenge would have been so different.”
Lucy Cummins said:
“I had a dream... with a fabulous support crew and my amazing walking friend Gynette, this became a reality. 7 days of Ultra marathons - a week of canals, laughter, mud, talking, mudslides and surprises! But mostly it was about friendship, memories and spreading awareness of breast cancer and a great charity. Dream, believe, achieve and hopefully inspire!”
The MoonWalkers were joined by people completing their challenges virtually across the country. Walk the Walk specialises in all types of Walking challenges. Earlier in the day nearly one hundred and fifty walkers arrived at the MoonWalk Arena on Clapham Common to take part in a new challenge, the 5K Zoom, introduced this year as a fun challenge to encourage all ages and abilities to get involved.
Entries are now open for The MoonWalk London 2025.
