Green Expo 2023 is being held on the banks of the River Dee in Chester on June 15th -17th to showcase the North West & North Wales' green credentials.
The three day event will be held down by the River Dee at Riverside on Castle Drive by the Old Dee Bridge from June 15th to 17th, Thursday to Saturday.
Green Expo 2023 has four ‘experiences' to it, a free exposition on the grass area next to the river for the three days, an all-day business conference on the Thursday, an awards dinner on the Thursday evening and a youth conference for schools and colleges on the Friday.
CHASE (Cheshire Heritage and Sustainability Enterprises) is the community interest company behind Green Expo. It is raising funds to restore the old hydroelectric building by the Old Dee Bridge to be an educational and skills centre for alternative energy. Any surplus from Green Expo will go to restoring the building as a ‘Hydro Hub'.
A recent survey revealed that 64% of Cheshire residents ‘Don't know enough about climate change and Net Zero'. 88% said they ‘don't know enough about local efforts and activities on climate change and Net Zero' and 84% would ‘like to know more'.
Green Expo will show all the great things being done locally and help individuals and organisations make their own difference. We need to work together collaboratively to make such a massive change to our lives to achieve Net Zero and reduce climate change.
Over 100 organisations in the North West and Wales are coming together to illustrate progress on Net Zero in all walks of life. Organisations like Peel NRE, Encirc, Grosvenor, Chester Zoo, NatWest and the University of Chester, individuals too. They will be joined by community initiatives and charities, electric vehicles and hydrogen transport for the FREE exposition. Other options will include local, smaller food and beverage stalls so that visitors can sample the delights of Cheshire's finest to make the Expo a complete destination over the three days.
Green Expo 2023 comprises a business conference on Thursday June 15, an awards dinner in the evening, a Youth Conference on the Friday and the three day exposition for the general public along the river June 15-17. This is its second year.
Green Expo inspires attendees to focus on what North West England and North Wales' carbon neutral future would look like. Local, national, and international organisations will showcase how they are achieving their plans as they move towards net zero.
Members of the public, businesspeople, inward investors and anyone interested in climate change, achieving energy savings and carbon reduction are invited to attend.
According to the Green Skills Taskforce 2021 report over 30,000 new jobs will be created in the North West by 2050 to get the UK to NetZero, and according to Net Zero North West this will sustain up to 650,000 jobs, the largest number of all the UK regions.
The Business Conference at the Riverside Innovation Centre on the Thursday will focus on investment, jobs and skills and how organisations can support the green activities taking place in the region to grow their own organisations in response to the investment created opportunities and in partnership with local education and skills providers. Last year saw nationally known speakers tackle topics on each of the UK's Climate Response strands, Power, Buildings (& Homes), Industry, Transport, Natural Resources (& Farming), Adaptation & Resilience. In 2023 we will be focusing on the inward investment contracts, jobs and careers opportunities and how SMEs (working in conjunction with education and skills providers) can prepare.
Presentations will be a mix of TED-style inspirational sessions, interspersed by panel discussions led by experts. Best practice and solutions will be discussed, providing delegates with examples to help them in their organisations.
Sponsors for 2023 will include Peel NRE, Encirc, Cadent, Grosvenor Group and the University of Chester with support from Cheshire West and Chester and Cheshire East Councils. Further sponsors for 2023 to be announced.
The University of Chester will again lead the Youth Conference on the Friday for school and college students from years 9 and above from across the region.
