Grosvenor Park returned to Birmingham for the Big Bang UK Young Scientists and Engineers Fair, to celebrate all things STEM!
The Big Bang Fair is a celebration of everything which involves Science, Technology, Engineering, and Maths (STEM). The fair includes hands-on activities, careers panels and an incredible show that will leave you on the edge of your seat. hands-on activities
Twelve of Grosvenor Park’s Year 6’s visited the exhibition in Birmingham where they got involved with various experiments and visited stalls of educational institutions and people from the STEM industry.
The children watched a chemistry show put on by the University of Wolverhampton, which involved all things time travel, as well as a stall from Specsavers. Year 5 teacher Charlotte Gill said: “this is really disgusting, but they had model plastic heads and very interact ears and ear canals, they then stuffed Lotus Biscoff into it and the children had to pick it out like ear wax – they absolutely loved it!”
Other stalls included a personality test, which told the children what part of the industry they would suit, based on their likes and personality.
Charlotte Gill said that apart from watching things being blown up, there was one part that her and the children were really impressed with:
“We were waiting to go into a planetarium dome for a tour, and a man walked past and handed Alex a 5,000-year-old meteorite, which landed in South America.
“It was exceptionally heavy because 90% of it was made from iron.”
The Big Bang Fair seemed to be a success with Grosvenor Park, Gill added: “The children couldn’t wait to try out things you ordinarily can’t do.”
The Grosvenor Park CofE Academy is one of 10 schools that is part of the North West Academies Trust.
