Have your say on the name for transformed Ellesmere Port Flea Market space

A shortlist of four names has been chosen by Ellesmere Port Councillors for the final public vote to name the new Ellesmere Port Flea Market space.

The options include retaining the Flea Market name or selecting a new name to reflect how the building will be transformed to create a flexible event space connected to the market hall. The new designs will allow the building to host a wider range of events and boost footfall in the town centre from within Ellesmere Port and the surrounding area.

Events will include visiting markets, music, social and community events, alongside the popular current uses which include second-hand markets, craft fairs and Comic Con events which will continue to be held there. The space will also benefit from new toilet facilities, a stage with sound system and a separate entrance to enable events to be held when the market is closed.

The shortlist was selected from over one hundred names suggested by the public in October via the market website.

The final shortlist was whittled down to four options:

  • The Flea Market
  • The Market Social
  • The Market Warehouse
  • The Market Space

Voting is open until Friday 6 December via:

Councillor Nathan Pardoe, Cabinet Member for Inclusive Economy, Regeneration and Digital Transformation said:

“Ellesmere Port Market is cherished by the people of Ellesmere Port, it’s why the Council is investing in it and why the Council is asking people to have their say on the name for the Flea Market space. People can choose to keep the existing name or choose from a shortlist that local councillors have created from public suggestions. Whatever the decision, I hope lots of people take part in the vote before it closes on Friday 6 December.”

The next event to take place in the current Flea Market space will be the return of the popular Christmas Memory Lane Craft & Gift Fair from 10am to 4pm Saturday 30 November.

Cheshire West and Chester Council will transform the market hall and the adjoining Flea Market as part of a wider £13 million town centre regeneration project.

The market and Flea Market transformation project has received funding from the Ministry of Housing, Communities & Local Government. The project will transform Ellesmere Port Market, prepare for low carbon town centre housing around Coronation Road and create a new walking, wheeling and cycling route to bring more residents and visitors into the town centre.
