Helsby Quarry pathway improvements will need full closure of the site

Helsby Quarry will be closed to visitors when work to upgrade sections of pedestrian pathways throughout the site begins on Monday 28 September.

Cheshire West and Chester Council has arranged the project, which will see an upgrade to the site entrance, pathways, drainage and replacement of an existing wooden support structure.

Council Leader and Cabinet Member for Wellbeing, Councillor Louise Gittins said: “Helsby Quarry Local Nature Reserve is a great place to spend an afternoon exploring the history of the area and enjoying the wildlife. Improvements to the pathways will make walking safer and easier and will provide health and environmental benefits to the local community whilst improving local connectivity, accessibility and mobility.”

A public right of way adjacent to the site will continue to provide access to Sandy Lane and Alvanley Road throughout the closure.

The works are expected to be completed by the end of October 2020.
