The celebrations to celebrate the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee start with a Jubilee Proclamation on Thursday 2 June at the Cross. Chester’s Town Crier, David Mitchell joins Town Criers from across the country announcing the Jubilee and beacons being lit.
“Oyez Oyez Oyez. Today in our nation - and throughout the Commonwealth - we are celebrating our glorious Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. Elizabeth - the second of that name - our most beloved Sovereign and Head of the Commonwealth for seventy years.”
The Lord Mayor of Chester, Councillor John Leather said: “The celebrations start on Thursday 2 June for Her Majesty the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with the proclamation and a service at Chester Cathedral plus Jubilee parade in the afternoon, following this I will be lighting the Jubilee beacon at 9.45pm.
“The exhibition ‘Her Majesty's connections with Chester’ shares treasured photographs of previous Royal visits to Chester over the years. Our Regalia talks are always popular so please book early. On Saturday there is a special Children’s Jubilee concert in Eastgate Street. There will be street parties across the borough plus a host of activities at our museums in Chester and Northwich.”
The Jubilee Beacon will be lit in the Town Hall square at 9.45pm from a torch presented to the Lord Mayor by Roman soldiers. Soldiers from Chester Roman Tours will march from the amphitheatre to Town Hall Square.
Cheshire West and Chester Council and the City of Chester Charter Trustees are offering Regalia Talks and Tours of Chester Town Hall. As well as delving into the history of the Town Hall and the ceremonial side of the City of Chester, the tours will also explore Chester's civic connections with Her Majesty the Queen and other members of the Royal Family.
Tours include entrance into the Lord Mayor’s exhibition ‘Her Majesty's connections with Chester’.
