Justin Madders, MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, was among those who attended a Parliamentary event organised by the charity Crisis entitled ‘Make History: Build a Future Free From Homelessness’.
MPs have spent time looking forward to the day when everyone has a home.
The organisers wanted to bring to life the stories behind the growing numbers of people experiencing homelessness.
Panel speakers Baroness Hilary Armstrong and Sir David Lidington shared insightful reflections from their time in Government on how the next Westminster Government can make a bold commitment to end all forms of homelessness, driven by truly cross-Government working.
New figures provided by the Homelessness and Information Network (CHAIN) show more than 2,000 (2,038) people were forced to sleep rough in London for the first time between January and March this year.
Meanwhile, the UK Government has published data revealing the number of households trapped in temporary accommodation in England has reached a new record high.
People in as many as 112,660 households were living in temporary accommodation such as nightly paid B&Bs between October and December 2023 and that figure includes more than 145,800 children.
