Outstanding A-level results for Queen’s students

A proud day for parents and staff at The Queen’s School in Chester, as they congratulate students on their superb A-level results.

The first cohort since 2019 to sit their exams as normal, they have continued to achieve outstanding results and secure their places at impressive universities studying a wide variety of exciting courses.

With 38% of grades achieved at the highest A* level and 66% A*- A, the students have once again shown true determination and resilience and their hard work has certainly paid off.

46% of students are celebrating a full set of A*- A grades with 85% of them achieving at least one A* - A and 67% 2 A* - A grades. 85% of all grades are A*- B level.

Getting the results to secure the next step in their academic journey or future career is what staff love to see, and this year we are delighted to see so many girls securing places at superb universities including Oxford, Cambridge, and a wide selection of Russell Group and Times Top 20 establishments. Head Girl Ava Dempsey (4xA*) is off to America to study at Princeton University majoring in Financial Engineering and Imogen Bond has been offered a place at the prestigious Central St Martins in London for an Art Foundation Diploma.

Headmistress Sue Wallace-Woodroffe said: “There is nothing better than seeing the students you have worked with and supported over the years achieving the results they deserve, and I know our teaching and support staff are extremely proud of them all. As always, our Year 13 are celebrating fantastic achievements and are now looking forward to the next exciting stage of their life, whether that be off to university or a gap year. I know our sixth-form girls have been thoroughly supported by our devoted staff, including our award-winning careers department, who are fortunate to be in the privileged position to know each individual student extremely well. This enables them to advise and guide the girls about their course choices and the experience they need to progress, and they will continue to be available to them should they need any further advice and guidance in the coming months.”

Two girls (Hattie Benton and Aimee Adey) are off to Oxford to study English Language and Literature and Classics and Italian with another student (Grace Dixon) looking forward to studying Classics at Cambridge. Six students (Amy Banim, Harriet Bird, Vrishali Shetty, Alicia Steele and Leah Gough, Esther Smellie) are looking forward to studying Medicine in September with two (Elica Banks and Ella Reynolds) off to study Law and Business and Law and Spanish and Bethany Norton studying Dentistry.

The range of exciting courses girls have chosen to go on to study this year include Criminology, Ecology and Conservation, Economics and Business, Fashion Promotion, Marketing and Management, Geography and Sustainable Development, History with study abroad, Pharmacology, Psychology, Nutrition, Special Effects Make-up Artistry, Sports Therapy and Writing, Direction and Performance to name but a few.

Headmistress Sue Wallace-Woodroffe continued: “In addition to congratulating the students, I must of course thank each and every one of our dedicated teaching staff for the commitment they have shown in delivering excellent education and by continually going above and beyond to ensure their pupils achieved their absolute best. I am proud of the way our sixth form provides an environment that supports students not only academically but also pastorally, so they really get to know who they are and most importantly are happy with who they are. This enables them to become the confident, compassionate, and resilient women we see today.

“I look forward to welcoming our Year 13 girls back in the near future as alumni, ready to mentor and inspire Queen’s girls just as they were during their time with us.”

87% of students who completed their Extended Project Qualification achieved an A* or A grade. The EPQ is an additional qualification offered to students as part of The Queen’s Sixth Form Baccalaureate and is highly sought after by universities. It is an individual project which is conducted entirely independently by each student on a topic of their choice. Universities are keen to take on students with an EPQ because it is tangible proof of their ability to work independently on an academic research project over a significant amount of time.

The following girls received straight A*- A grades. Congratulations to Amy Banim (3xA*), Hattie Benton (3xA* and A* EPQ), Harriet Bird (1xA*, 2xA and A EPQ), Leonie Brown (3xA* and A* EPQ), Annie Canning (3xA and A* EPQ), Emilia Clegg (3xA, and A EPQ), Ava Dempsey (4xA*), Emily Fagan (3xA*, 1xA and A* EPQ, Anushka Goel (2xA*, 1xA and A* EPQ), Jemima Higby (1xA*, 2xA and A EPQ), Emma Islip (3xA and A* EPQ), Fiona Johnson (3xA* and D1- equivalent to A*), Rebecca Kerridge (2xA*, 1xA and A* EPQ), Harriet Luff (3xA and A* EPQ), Freya Regnart-Butler (2xA*, D1 - equivalent to A*, and A* EPQ), Ella Reynolds (2xA*, 1xA and A* EPQ), Zoe Robertson (3xA and A* EPQ), Vrishali Shetty (3xA* and A* EPQ), Esther Smellie (3xA*), Jennifer Stairmand (2xA*, 1xA and A EPQ) and Alicia Steele (3xA*).
