Justin Madders, MP for Ellesmere Port and Neston, attended Asda’s Creating Change for Better reception at the House of Commons.
Held to celebrate 10 years of Asda’s Community Champion and Green Token Giving schemes, Mr Madders learned about the retailer’s Creating Change for Better Strategy and the company’s five-year plan to invest £50m into local communities and charity partners.
Staff of Asda, which has a long-established superstore in Ellesmere Port, updated guests on their work to support customers, colleagues, and communities with the cost-of-living. According to the latest Asda Income Tracker, families were £35.57 a week, equivalent to £142 per month, worse off in October 2022 than a year before.
In response, Asda’s support has included its popular £1 meals offer for children and over 60s in their cafes and a £90 million investment, in the launch of its ‘Just Essentials’ range and ‘Price Lock’ on 100 family favourites. The retailer has also introduced their Asda Rewards ‘pounds not points’ scheme.
Asda’s Community Champions play a major role in making a real difference across local communities, and Green Token Giving invests £1m annually into communities. Over the past year the Champions have volunteered over 367,000 hours of time, representing an investment of £5.5m. Asda’s Charity, the Asda Foundation, has also committed over £3.7m in grants to support more than 10,000 organisations and the retailer’s 140,000 colleagues.
In the past decade Asda Champions have donated over four million hours and overseen the investment of more than £30m into communities across the UK. The Foundation, has been supporting communities for more than 30 years, investing more than £40m to date, and helping grassroots organisations make a real impact.
Mr Madders said: “Asda’s commitment to invest more into our local communities and charity partners over the next five years is welcome.
“I am pleased to support the work done by Community Champions and the Asda Foundation, which will provide an important lifeline for local groups and charities during these challenging times.”
