TOP CHESTER CHOIRS ON SONG TO CELEBRATE 100 YEARS OF MUSIC MAKING WITH SPECIAL CONCERT

Two of the region's most popular choirs are set to join forces for a special concert which is finally taking place two years after it was originally scheduled, having been postponed twice due to Covid restrictions.

Chester Male Voice Choir which this year celebrates its 80th Anniversary, will be joining forces with flamboyant female choir A Handbag of Harmonies to stage "Bow Ties and Boas", a special concert which celebrates the two choirs clocking up an impressive 100 years of music making between them.

The concert, postponed for two years as a result of the pandemic finally takes place at St Columba's Church in Plas Newton, Chester on Friday 8th April at 7.30pm and will feature a wide range of music including much loved semi-classical pieces, songs from West End musicals, Abba and Britney Spears.

Featuring performances by both choirs, Chester Male Voice Choir will be under the musical direction of Rodney T Jones whilst A Handbag of Harmonies who having been performing since 2000 will be directed by Matt Baker BEM who recently accepted an invitation to become the new President of Chester Male Voice Choir.

Speaking about finally being able to stage the concert, John Walsh, retiring Chair of Chester Male Voice Choir said "We first planned and publicised this concert for 9 May 2020, but Covid caused everything to be cancelled from early March. We were disappointed but resigned to the need to abandon it. We targeted early 2021 for its replacement but restrictions in place prevented it again. We’re so looking forward to finally being able to stage the concert and to be performing with the wonderfully entertaining A Handbag of Harmonies for the first time in over a decade. We have new songs in our repertoire and we’re bursting with enthusiasm to perform again. Our Christmas concert in early December was a sell-out and we hope that this one will be too, it will certainly be an evening not to be missed".

Natalie Nolan, Chair of A Handbag of Harmonies said "It’s such a treat for the ‘Handbags’ to share a stage with Chester Male Voice Choir. We have been working hard to develop brand new arrangements and choreography, and there will be some surprises on the night. We’re really looking forward to sharing the joy of song with our shared audience."
